Honeycomb
Infrared Under Board Preheater (Not
available on machines with optional X-Y Theta Table)
This option includes a 16 x 30 inch (406 x 762 mm) under-board,
honeycomb infrared preheater and an external
electrical box with disconnect circuit breaker. Preheating
reduces cycle time and board warp, which sometimes occurs
when large PCB assemblies are locally heated during rework.
The preheater has an opening in the center,
which allows the standard Freedom bottom process heater
to still be used. This option requires an additional 120V,
20A branch circuit.
Auxiliary
Halogen Lamps
Includes two Sunnex 20-watt halogen, gooseneck work lamps,
with a right angle swivel joint lamphead. A switch on
the mounting base provides On/off control.
Table and Heater Head Options
Compact X-Y Table
This is a smaller version of the standard XY table with
theta adjustment in the heater head. This version is smaller
in the Y direction to make the X-Y table more
ergonomic when working with small circuit boards. Board
handling capacity is reduced to 20 inches x 12 inches
(51 cm x 30 cm).
X-Y
Rack and Pinion Fine Adjust (Standard on X-Y
Theta Table, optional on X-Y Table with Theta Head)
Fine pitch gear racks run the length of both the X and
Y-Axes of the table. A pivoting pinion shaft is lifted
above the rack to rapidly position the table, then lowered
to
mesh with rack. Friction in the pinion shaft holds the
table in position. Fine adjustments can be made by rotating
a knob on the end of the pinion shaft. This option
allows simple, one-handed rapid/fine table positioning
for component alignment.
X-Y,
Theta Table
This is a high mass XY table that pivots on its base to
provide Theta adjustment. It will hold boards up to 19.25
x 18 inches (49 x 46 cm). Theta adjustment is built into
the
table, instead of the heater head. It is recommended for
small boards, which do not require the use of the preheater
option. A preheater cannot be installed with this table.
Floating Head Control (Not
available with optional Fixed Heater Heads)
This option provides a low friction air cylinder counter-balance
for the Freedom 2000 heater head. A regulator provides
adjustment of the pressure in the cylinder limiting
the component placement force. This option requires the
freestanding base package.
Fixed Theta Heater Head (Use
only with X-Y Table with Theta Head option)
A rigid Theta Heater Head replaces the breakaway Theta
Heater Head (standard with X-Y Table with Theta Head option).
This couples the heater head directly to the
z-axis drive for applications where high placement force
is desired.
Fixed Heater Head (Use
only with X-Y/Theta Table)
A rigid heater head replaces the standard Breakaway Heater
Head. This couples the heater head directly to the z-axis
drive for applications where high placement force is
desired.
Vision System Options
2X Magnification Lens Adapter (Use with fixed mirror
and zoom lens only)
This option doubles the standard optical magnification
of the Freedom 2000. It is recommended primarily for working
with small components, especially flip chip, TAB and fine
pitch components. Ideal working component size is reduced
from the standard 0.5 - 2.0 inch (6-50 mm) to 0.25 - 1.0
inch (3-25 mm).
Enhanced Fiber Optic Lighting
Proprietary, double light-pipe fiber optic lighting replaces
the standard single light-pipe system. Fiber optic bundles
transmitting light to the pipes are also doubled in size.
The result is even brighter, more uniform lighting than
the standard system. This option is recommended when high-magnification
eyepieces are to be used with the Stereo Microscope Optics
Package or when the 2X Magnification Lens Adapter is used
with the standard lens system. This option is not retrofittable.
Premium Optics Package
(use with fixed mirror only)
Premium Leica brand lens carrier replaces the standard
zoom lens. This provides five discreet magnification steps,
and a sharper image with less glare and better edge definition
than the standard system.
Stereo
Microscope Optics Package (use with fixed mirror
only)
This option includes the Leica lens system from the Premium
Optics Package, as well as a Binocular Stereo Microscope
Head, which allows direct viewing of the board/component
image through interchangeable eyepieces. This option includes
one set of 10X Eyepieces, which allow viewing of the entire
maximum component size of 2-inch (51 mm). The high-resolution
video camera image works in conjunction with the binocular
microscope to provide a through microscope video image.
Higher magnification eyepieces are available separately.
16X Eyepiece Set
Two Leica interchangeable, 16X eyepieces are provided
for use with the Stereo Microscope Optics Package. These
are ideal for most TAB and Ultra-fine
pitch applications. (Maximum working component size
is reduced as magnification increases.)
25X Eyepiece Set
Two Leica interchangeable, 25X eyepieces are provided
for use with the Stereo Microscope Optics Package. These
are ideal for most flip-chip and Micro-BGA
applications. The Enhanced Fiber Optic Lighting option
is recommended for use with this option. (Maximum working
component size is reduced as magnification increases).
40X Eyepiece Set
Two Leica interchangeable, 40X eyepieces are provided
for use with the Stereo Microscope Optics Package. The
Enhanced Fiber Optic Lighting option is recommended for
use with this option. (Maximum working component size
is reduced as magnification increases).
2X Video Adapter (use with
Premium or Microscope Optics options only)
This option is an additional, two-piece adapter, which
can be used with the Premium or Microscope Optics option
to double the size of the camera image displayed on the
computer monitor.
Split Mirror
A special mirror assembly splits the optical path allowing
the user to zoom in on the corners of large, fine-pitch
devices to simplify alignment. This option is not recommended
for use with the 2X-magnification lens adapter, premium
optics, or microscope optics options.
B&W Camera
A black and white camera replaces the standard color camera.
It can be used in conjunction with the L.E.D. lighting
option for viewing BGA components on green boards. Miniature,
high intensity red L.E.D. arrays replaces standard white
fiber optic lighting.
L.E.D. Lighting
Miniature, high-intensity, red L.E.D. arrays replace the
standard, white fiber optic lighting. This option is used
only with the optional B&W camera.

International/Safety Options
CE Certification [1]
This option covers the additional cost of safety features
required to comply with CE requirements in the European
community. CE certification also requires the Freestanding
Base and External Transformer options.
Front-Facing
Emergency Stop Buttons [2]
Two matched sheet metal enclosures are mounted at the
front corners of the machine. The emergency stop buttons
are relocated to mount in the sheet metal boxes so that
they face forward (toward the operator). This option is
required in Japan due to local safety codes.
Computer Safety Cover
A clear, polycarbonate cover is installed inside the PC
enclosure to prevent unauthorized personnel from tampering
with the computer assembly.
Front-mount Gauge Panel
(Requires Free-Standing Base and Floating Head)
A small gauge panel is mounted at the top, right, front
corner of the Freedom base. This panel holds gauges for
the heaters, vacuum, and floating head pressures, as well
as the regulator for the floating head. The gauges mounted
in the panel are graduated in PSI and KPa.
Machine Safety Enclosure
(Requires Free-Standing Base and Front-Facing Emergency
Stop Buttons)
A steel and polycarbonate structure is built up from the
Freedom base to enclose the sides, back, and top of the
machine. The top has a 100mm-diameter hole for ventilation
attachment. This option may be used with the Safety I/O
and Light Curtain options below for a completely guarded
configuration.
Safety I/O Package (Requires
Free-Standing Base)
Two output connectors and one input connector are installed
on the back of the PC enclosure. The optional Light Curtain
and Light Tower can be supported through these connectors
using a special version of the Freedom 2000 software and
PLC program, which is supplied with the option. Customers
may also choose to use the inputs and outputs for their
own, custom add-ons. The input connector provides a safety
switch input, which will trip the emergency stop circuit
when the machine is automatically running the heaters
or the motorized z-axis drive. A safety switch override
output enables this switch to be tripped without aborting
the Freedom profile when manual actions must be performed
by the machine operator. The output connectors provide
on/off outputs for: red light/e-stop, yellow light, green
light, component vacuum, component placement, preheater,
and safety switch override. One of the output connectors
also provides +24 VDC and ground outputs, intended to
be supply power (100 mA max.) for the safety switch input.
Light Curtain (Requires
the Machine Safety Enclosure and Safety I/O Package)
This option uses an area-array, infrared light sensor
to guard the front of the Machine Safety Enclosure. It
plugs into the Safety I/O Package connectors. The light
curtain ties into the emergency stop circuit, and is overridden
at certain times during Freedom profiles when an operator's
arms must enter the safety enclosure to perform manual
actions. If an operator's arms enter the guarded area
while the heaters are on, or the z-axis drive is moving,
the emergency stop circuit will be tripped, the heaters
and motor will stop, and the machine must be manually
reset.
Three-Color Light Tower (Requires
the Safety I/O Package)
A light tower with red, yellow, and green lights is mounted
to the back of the machine. The light tower plugs into
the Safety I/O Package output connectors. The red light
is on for an emergency stop condition, the yellow light
is on for setup or manual operations, and the green light
is on for automatic operation.
