Why Do I Need an Underside Board Support System?

Small, thin epoxy/glass substrates tend to "sag" during the mass heating (reflow) process due to progressive resin softening. In certain cases, this can result in board dropping. This problem is most prevalent on multi-panel assemblies that are 0.020 to 0.031 inches/0.5 to 0.8 mm thick and greater than 7 inches/178 mm in width. If your boards fit this description, then Conceptronic’s Single or Multi-Cable PCB Support Options may be ideal for you.

Why a Cable-Based Board Support System?

Traditional center support systems use special chains that "ride" on top of long, thin metal carrier rails. Due to their small form-factor and high operating temperatures, these long rails are prone to sagging, twisting, and warping. In addition, the transport chain is difficult to remove. As a result, positional accuracy and processing flexibility is limited. In contrast, our unique design incorporates a tensioned cable and special sectional supports. Thus, greater positional stability and accuracy are provided. This system is also thermally "invisible" to the process.

Fully Removable for Alternate Double-Sided PCB Processing

Unlike chain-based support systems, our cables continuously recirculate within the processing chamber at the same speed as the edge conveyor. This arrangement enables quick removal and replacement of cables (in minutes). It also enables the complete support assembly to be "tucked" under edge conveyor extrusions for maximum underside chamber clearance. And, with no chain, NO OILING IS REQUIRED! "No-clean" assemblies can never be contaminated.

Who Can Best Use This Technology?

Cable-based underside board support technology is ideal for both the dedicated high-volume manufacturer and the low-volume prototype manufacturer who deals with thin, low-mass multi-up panels. It is available in single or multi-cable configurations.
